Hot off the desktop, this course is so new I just realized I haven’t even spell-or-grammer checked the sales page. I’ll get rite on that. But if you want first grabs at this new Actionscript 3 course, its cheap and ready for delivery! Also I taught this one with both Flash gamers and Flash web developers in mind. So there’s about 4 hours on each topic (around 8.5 total). And you can bounce around through all 12 courses, so you can just watch what you want to learn about most.

Well freaky in the sense that Chrome has Flash “enabled by default”. Awwwwww yeeah. So if you’ve downloaded Chrome, you’ve already got Flash ready, no more separate plug in updates. They have mated. Which brings me to Chrome, and I should have mentioned this weeks ago….
Get it. I like it way more than Safari and Firefox on the Mac. Aesthetically and otherwise. Well, who cares what I like aesthetically. It does seem much faster than Firefox, and much much faster than Safari which at one time seemed like a quick browser to me, and now feels like the slowest. And by “feels” I mean, I see a lot of spinning color wheels waiting for Safari to figure out what to do with Flash or a YouTube video or whatever.
Here’s the best part though. Tucked inside Chrome are really handy developer tools. Hit up View > Developer Tools, then Enable Resource Tracking ( I only for the current session ) and then you get a plethora of tools for seeing what’s really going on behind the scenes (see the screengrab below). And I do realize not everyone will start drooling over seeing how many milliseconds it took for a graphic to load or unmatched DIV tags, but you can do some pretty cool stuff too. Its worth exploring if you deem yourself a web developer.
Plus Chrome has a ton of themes. So if you look like a hippy, your web browser probably can too. My theme is none other than Late Night. It is black.
Alright, this is everyone’s most loved or most loathed topic here, but this is a good article on html5. Here’s a snippet to make my Flash crowd happy…
HTML5 will change many aspects of life on the Web. It will not displace Flash or Shockwave: One glance at the games on Miniclip.com, such as Jet Ski Racer, shows how much ground the HTML5 committee must cover. But HTML5 will still remake the Web and enable basic Websites to do much more — from tracking our location to storing more of our data in the cloud. HTML5 tags will displace plug-ins for simpler jobs, at least some of the time, and it will open up advanced capabilities to a larger audience. It might even make the Web more secure, more efficient, and more adaptable.
There’s much more to read, so head over and check it out (the last line is great).
Also two reminders. Flash Player 10.1 is available and FUTURAMA is on TONIGHT!!!
Mount your Scooty Puff Juniors, people. Futurama is back on the air tomorrow. No. Not in reruns on Adult Swim. This is the real deal. Actual new episodes. I swear on the Space Pope, this is happening! Seriously its hard to believe though that tomorrow (at 10 o’Clock on Comedy Central) the greatest show EVER, yes EVER is back on the air. I wouldn’t miss this even for death by snoo snoo.
And lest this show be cancelled again, Tweet your friends, Facebook-wall your frenemies, lets get the word out.

This is a really great modification of our Flash music player tutorial. I’m jealous actually, I should have taught that course using one this cool (click below to play it). Also worth checking out is the entire site, MonkeyInADryer.com done by Dustin Crops Boy (thats his code name). Thanks for sharing, D.C.B.!
This Toshiba tablet is kinda cool (they should call it Tosh-E though), but I’m really posting this because of the interviewer. He has no problem using his hands in front of the lens, which is so rare, even in home videos, I find it really funny. Also, he laughs a lot. Also, he clearly loves Flash as you’ll find out in just a moment…
Here’s a very cool animated trailer for, what better than, an animation festival. The upload is recent, but the festival was like, so 2009. Check it out though…
It was done by Jan Lachauer.
Also this 4 minute videogame trailer is more exciting than probably any scene in those…oh why even make the comparison. Just watch (in HD too).
…To paraphrase one of my favorite Jeremy Davies lines. Anyway, just watch this video and I think you’ll see what I mean. I can’t explain it other than to say, Flash on a phone makes some race-cars go fast.
And I think we can safely add this to the list of “cool sh*t flash does”
Here’s a good example of the character animation itself not being all that incredible, but the lighting of it makes it look it could be from a movie.
Decent song too.
